DOPE FRIEND

writer

OVERVIEW

DOPE FRIEND is the title of the feature screenplay based on the proof of concept project Companion. Set in New York, the feature is a dark character study with laughs, a more colorful version of the film Michael Clayton. Instead of a corporate “fixer”, Dope Friend follows a recovery coach tasked with picking up the pieces, dirty work nonetheless. Dope Friend takes place over the course of one day and one night. The ticking clock gives the film a clear sense of urgency in the vein of films like Collateral and 25th Hour. The tone will have elements of both films, while still maintaining humor reminiscent of Midnight Run and 48 Hours.

LOGLINE: After being released from a drug treatment center, a disgraced NBA basketball star is forced to hire a down on his luck sober companion tasked with keeping him clean for 24 hours before a court date that could send him to prison.
